Executive coaching is increasingly recognised by the business world as an effective means of supporting, challenging and developing senior managers. It typically consists of a series of one to one meetings between coach and coachee. The focus, scope and confidentiality boundaries are explicitly negotiated between coach, coachee and the sponsor or client (ie the paying organisation). This confidential contact with an experienced external coach gives invaluable opportunity for senior people to re-focus on goals, direction and strategy - in the context of openly accounting for personal strengths, weaknesses and values. Coaching is therefore a highly personalised process that requires sensitivity, skill and engagement.
I have significant experience of coaching senior managers in national and multinational organisations. I recognise that you cannot separate the person from their performance. Extensive business research supports one of my main working discoveries: The Person-Productivity Principle: “When someone feels considered as a person and not just for what they produce, they are more productive”. My coaching sessions provide an open and creative context in which we can productively attend to the person, their performance and the relationship between the two.
